The Department of Immigration said over 1.6 million Nepalis left the country in 2023.
The data released by the Department on Monday contains numerical details of people who left Nepal for various reasons, including foreign employment, travel, family visits, study, permanent residence, temporary residence, training, sports, cultural programs, etc.
According to the data, 70,915 left the country to settle elsewhere permanently. Out of these, 36,663 are men and 34,251 are women.
Similarly, 92,349 people have left Nepal for temporary residence, including 51,876 men and 40,468 women.
In 2023, a total of 808,415 Nepalis left the country for foreign employment. According to the Department’s data, 723,789 men and 84,604 women left Nepal for foreign employment, while 108,542 individuals went abroad for studies.
Rudra Singh Tamang, the Director General of the Department of Immigration, mentioned that the data categorises individuals based on the nature of their visa.
He said a large number of people were leaving for Australia, Japan, the US, and other countries for residence.
